Bracelets are an article of clothing or of jewelry which are worn around one’s wrist. Often times bracelets are made from cloth or metal, and sometimes even of rocks, wood, and even precious materials. Almost everyone will have worn a bracelet at some time in their life.

Often times we even wear bracelets without even thinking about it. An easy example of this is a for medical and identification purposes, such as name tags, and health conditions in a hospital. One of the first major fads of braclets to move through was in the 1980’s, with ’snap bracelets’. Snap bracelets were metal bracelts that were covered with felt, or another soft material. Their shape was such that it could hold either a straight position, or be ’snapped’, to wrap around one’s wrist.

Presently we are going through another fad which is that of silicone rubber bracelets which normally have some type of writing on them to symbolize or support something. These bracelets were popularized by Nike and Lance Armstrong through the yellow Livestrong bracelet, which is Lance Armstrong’s charitable organization for Cancer research/awareness. These rubber bracelets are also commonly known as ‘wristbands’, ‘baller bands’ or ‘baller id bands’.

Not always true, but as in the example above bracelets are often times symbolic of something. Another example of a symbolic use of bracelets, is that with friendship bracelets which are usually self made bracelets given from one friend to another to symbolize their relationship. Bracelts come in all shapes and sizes and can be a very usefull way to remind yourself of something valuable, as your wrist goes everywhere you do.

To many people, titanium is a mysterious term. General understanding of the public for this metal is that it is a very hard substance, and some may know that is very light as well, especially for folks who own any titanium jewelry or watches. We would like to clarify some common myths about this metal and give brief explanation for each one.

Titanium is a newly found metal
Titanium is new to many industries and recently applied to many new applications, but the metal was first discovered in 1791, in England. It was discovered by an amateur chemist in an impure form called rutile. It was not used widely until the last century because the technique for extracting titanium from its naturally occurred ore remained a failure until 1910. It was used in many applications after it was shown that its alloys can be produced commercially by reducing titanium tetrachloride with magnesium in 1940.

Titanium is very hard
It depends. It has to be noted that the metal (chemical periodic table symbol Ti), is rather soft compare to the commonly known “strong” version, which is the alloys made from a mixture of titanium, tin (Sn), aluminum (Al) and vanadium (V). In jewelry industry, titanium is offered in different grades. The pure titanium jewelry is much softer than the other two alloys, known as 6Al4V and 6Al4V2Sn. 6Al4V means that the alloy consists of 90% titanium, 6% aluminum and 4% vanadium.

Titanium is a precious metal
Quite on the contrary, titanium is abundant on the Earth and not precious at all. Nevertheless, titanium jewelry is listed among the precious metals silver, gold and platinum under precious metal categories. Also, the price range for titanium jewelry is similar to the precious metals that are actually scarce on the Earth. The reason is that although the metal itself is abundantly available, the process for producing titanium alloys is expensive compare to traditional precious metals. The technology for creating titanium alloys involves extremely high temperature and vacuum condition, and tight control of environment to avoid any contaminations. This drives the prices of titanium jewelry to the range of jewelry just like gold jewelry.

Titanium jewelry is indestructible
Wrong. Even though titanium alloys have high strength and resistant to wearing, it can be damaged. In fact, it can be worked almost in the same ways as other jewelry, such as resizing, filing, polishing and engraving. However, special equipment is needed to do so. Therefore, in case of an emergency, titanium rings can be cut off like any other rings, except that some special equipment is needed. Note that pure titanium jewelry can be scratched and bent just like gold and silver jewelry.

Titanium jewelry is hypoallergenic
Right. Titanium alloys are inert and does not contain nickel or cobalt which most people with more sensitive skin are allergic to. They will not change color or cause outbreak to virtually anybody. In short, titanium jewelry is very safe to wear.

Chainmail jewelry was actually used by the ancient Celts at the 5th century to make armors for warriors. It was used by linking iron or steel rings and welding them into place so they can be worn to make good and flexible protection for the warriors. Today, you can find chainmail used as artistic jewelry which can deliver beautiful and elegance taste to both men and women who use it.

Chainmail Jewelry is often improved by the craftsmen or artisan by adding gems and beads. There are some basic different patterns that still used by artisans to create beautiful jewelry. The first one which also the most common pattern is the four-in-one chainmail pattern. The weave begins with four rings linked through the central ring and continued by adding a center ring and two end rings to the preceding one. This patter is commonly used for bracelets, anklets and necklace that can be added with beads, crystal or gems to make it looks more beautiful.

The second pattern is the Byzantine or Box weave pattern which can be considered as the most durable and elegant weaves for decorative accent or as stand alone pieces. The third one is the spiral pattern that often used as necklace and bracelet. You may find it a little bit difficult to find this kind of jewelry on the jewelry stores but you can order it to metal designers or artisans for a personalized and unique jewelry.
